I enrolled in April’s Level 1 “Equine Musculoskeletal Unwinding” Home Study this fall and have never been happier with the quality of education. The amount of information and guidance that is included in the handbook and the video is incredible. I feel like I have finally stumbled upon the wisdom and empowerment I have always been looking for as a horse owner and equestrian. I am even more grateful that April has put together this education so that it be accessed at home. Especially given our current global restrictions!
How it all started was myself feeling frustrated with my own horses’ health & happiness after seeking out advice and treatment from coaches, veterinarians, farriers, chiropractors, massage therapists, and an osteopath. After each session with a professional, there would be some improvement, only to have symptoms such as mystery lameness or inflammation or just generally an unhappy horse to come back within a week. I had taken some similar training during ‘lockdown’ early in the year (and was even certified to work on horses), but I still felt there were gaps in my knowledge or things that just didn’t ‘sit right’ with me. With April’s instruction, the concepts really made sense, and she took careful time to explain the whys and how’s of ailments and how to go about helping the horse regain balance. A few times as I was watching the video, a question would creep into my mind, “Hmm, I wonder if….” and April would address the very question minutes later! Distance education is not an easy method of instruction, but April’s style of communication and demonstrating has made it just as beneficial as being in-person.
And the other amazing thing is, when April says she loves helping people with their horses, she really means it! She has supported me in helping to make my horses as healthy as possible, answering questions I am sure she has heard a hundred times over. Not only have I brought my own horse back to a place of soundness and comfort, but I am helping my friends’ horses, and it is the best feeling.
Also, April’s live support in the form of me submitting 5 case studies for her to look at and give me feedback on what I might have missed and go over the move in detail was exceptionally helpful for my learning to be the best I can be. Not something I received from other courses I took.
Hi..I would like to share with everyone how wonderful April’s Home Study Level 1 Class is.When April had to cancel coming to N.Y. because of Covid I decided to not let Covid deter me and I signed up for the homestudy course. Im very impressed with the workbook,it is organized, detailed, thoughtful and full of information you wouldnt find anywhere else…and of course easy to understand. The best part is April’s response to your questions is very very quick, usually within an hour and definitively the same day. This woman really cares about her students’…I feel shes healing me as well as my horses’. I will add I was very touched by her generosity when she gave me unexpectedly a personalized essential oil receipe for my horse with Lymes. To me the course has turned out to be a real Gem…I have learned so much in a short period of time. So if you are on the fence about taking this home study course Dont be …you will be learning from a very generous, knowledgeable person, whos is also a very good teacher.
Why is your horse acting up? Why is your horse lame? What is horse therapy?
April will explain it to you in detail during your private session, and give you a follow up protocol to help your horse regain it’s wellness and balance. April horse therapy program looks for blocked energy in the whole horse, teeth to tail, finding the cause of the behavioral problem or energy imbalances.
April specializes in horse therapy helping your horse feel his best while offering you the most in your equine/human partnership.
She also spends time with the horse owner explaining the details often left out of other professional appointments. So if you are wondering why your horses front hooves are not matching also called” high/low syndrome,” flares, or contracted heels, she will explain how the body loads the hoof is how the hoof is going to grow. To correct the hooves you need to correct the body (April teaches clinics about this as well). She will answer questions about why your horse’s poll is out, which will give you a bracey or seemingly argumentative horse avoiding contact with the bit and getting heavy on the front end. Do you have a cold backed or girthy/cinchy horse, or bucking at the canter? This indicates your horse is in pain, as ribs and withers are out of balance. Cross firing at the canter hips are out and hocks/stifles are sore from compensating. Roach back or hunters bump issues are not conformation (not correctable), that is posture (correctable) from Psoas (lower back area) in spasm not allowing hips to move freely. When the horse pulls its first rib out, either pulling a front shoe with the hind or running across a field and hits a gopher hole or mud bog, this makes canter on that side uncomfortable for your horse as well as pulling withers out, dropping ribs on that side (does your saddle tilt to one side?) and stressing the Psoas area and pulling hips out of alignment. These are all compensations from the first rib being not where it should be, which constricts that side scapula from moving freely.
When the first rib is out, it causes many of the horse chiropractic issues we see today. If you do not release the first rib then you will continue to have the same problems adjusted on your horse each time the equine chiropractor comes out for a visit.
